Our Philosophy

At the Kansas City Underground Film Festival, we believe that film is a powerful tool for connection, transformation, and understanding. It can transport us, challenge us, and show us perspectives we might never encounter otherwise. We are drawn to work that pushes boundaries and reimagines what cinema can be.

Too often, film culture prioritizes commercial appeal over artistic risk. This limits what audiences are allowed to see and whose voices get heard. We reject that model. We champion bold, independent films driven by vision and urgency, not market trends or industry approval.
